COURSE NAME: THROWING & DECORATING TECHNIQUES ON THE WHEEL
COURSE #: W702
START DATE: 2/24/10
# WKS: 1
DAYS: W, TH
TIME: 9:30-4:30
FEE: $200.00
MEMBER FEE: $150.00
LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION: The class is designed for all levels of skill, from beginners to advanced throwers.
STRUCTURE OF YOUR CLASSES: Students will be given a morning demonstration of techniques used by the instructor. An hour lunch break will be followed by individual attention to students throwing their own work. Students will be encouraged to ask any and all questions about their own working styles and problems they may have in their personal growth and progress. Any pots they make on the first day will be trimmed on the second day. Due to the time limitations inherent in a two day class, it will be impossible for students to have a finished, glazed piece as part of their class experience. Nonetheless, the experience of being introduced to new throwing and decorative techniques is something they can grow with in the future.
SUBJECT MATTER: The goal of the class will be to introduce new techniques to the students that they can incorporate into their own working styles. In addition, it is my intention to help them become better potters overall through individual attention, encouragement and help with technical problems. Techniques covered will include throwing the largest piece you can with the least amount of clay; throwing large, expanded forms; throwing lidded pots to make the lids fit snugly; decorative techniques applied while throwing and trimming; attaching multiple pieces into a single finished piece of work.
